Lifetimes and useful lives of components

Motivation

Interest in the service life of a building and its components and the maintenance measures to be expected is currently growing strongly. They are needed, for example, as a basis for LCC and LCA considerations, as a decision-making aid for component selection in the planning phase of new construction and also conversion or repair projects, and for budgeting and maintenance planning. So far, however, there is a lack of both a calculation tool with which expected service life can be determined in a practical and realistic manner and meaningful, comparable data on component service life.

Goal

The aim of the project is to develop a model that allows the actual service life of a building component to be calculated in a practice-oriented manner, taking into account the specific building characteristics. The lifetimes calculated with the model should be the basis for life cycle cost and sustainability considerations. The model is intended to serve as an aid in the selection of components in the planning phase of new construction projects as well as in conversion and repair work.
