Investigations on Maintenance Budgeting, Operator Responsibility, and Process Optimization in the Context of KIT Start-up

Motivation

The merger of the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe and the Universität Karlsruhe to form the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) presents new opportunities and challenges with regard to a future, holistic real estate management of both locations. Therefore, in cooperation with the Facility Management service unit and the KIT Chair of Facility Management, various studies based on real-estate data of the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe have been carried out on the basis of three exemplary properties of the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe in order to identify the current strengths and weaknesses as well as improvement potentials and risks in dealing with the future overall property portfolio.

Objective

The aim of the project is to document and analyse the currently practiced management procedures and processes. The findings will be used to identify opportunities for holistically managing and continuously optimizing the future management of real estate, particularly with regard to cost budgeting, operator risks and maintenance processes.
