As part of the lecture series “Digitization in Facility and Real Estate Management” at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in the 2019/20 winter semester, an excursion to the Freiburg branch of the company “Sauter-Cumulus” (SC) took place on January 21, 2020. After everyone arrived at the SC branch, the program began on site with a short standing coffee break in the company building.

The first part focused mainly on the company profile:
How the company intends to master the future based on key data, business areas, in-house systems, historical developments, and visions.

In the second part, the latest generation “modulo 6” was presented as the core component of SC's building automation system. After 10 years, it is the first model that is said to have made significant progress in terms of performance, usability, integration, IoT, security, and investment protection compared to the previous version.

In the third part, Mr. Strittmatter reported on room automation components. This was technically oriented, and he explained some aspects of the standards used, the software, and the integral planning and installation across all trades.

The subsequent lunch took place in a convivial atmosphere in the company restaurant, to which SC invited the participants, as well as to the subsequent coffee break.

The last part complemented the first three parts of the event with a description of many possible applications and a live demonstration of the technology presented. The 5th floor of the company building served as a kind of showroom with a variety of sensors, such as temperature and humidity sensors, contact sensors on windows, meters on soap dispensers and coffee machines, and many more.
