D&D (Decommissioning and Dismantling) of nuclear facilities is a complex task due to specific logistical and coordination requirements, budgetary constraints and long-term time frames. Traditional methods applying mostly manual procedures for planning of individual tasks within the overall process prove inefficient for enabling integrated planning across the whole project and team. Considerable uncertainties, combined with high-level safety requirements related to management of radiological materials, calls for an innovative approach. Therefore, initiatives are driven by different countries to strengthen safety measures and maintaining the operation financially viable. 3D modelling-based digital concepts have potential to both simplify D&D planning, and to lead towards more efficient and better-coordinated actions.
PLEIADES is a H2020-EURATOM Project. The representatives of industry, research, safety organization and technological SMEs join forces in PLEIADES do demonstrate an innovative BIM modelling-based approach for detailed planning of logistics, resource allocation and safety measures from a holistic perspective on carefully selected pilot plants. PLEIADES will be the first platform to concentrate a set of mature digital technologies to be implemented on dismantling sites. The overall aim of the PLEIADES project ist o provide a new digitally enhanced methodology for improving current D&D operations, defining good practices for digitalisation and facilitatig higher standardisation required for international application.
The project aims at making innovative digital tools attractive for the new generation of “decommissioners” and promoting their adaption by the industry.
